  • Fry wings for 10 to 12 minutes, on moderate temperature.
  • Remove the wings when they’re golden brown.

Only thing you need to keep in mind is the temperature of oil, in which wings are going to be fried. It should not be so much high and not so much lower, because high temperature will not cook your chicken from inside although they give brownish color from outside. So keep in mind its moderate temperature that is up to 350F.

Other thing is defrosting or thawing. So make sure to melt the ice from wings before going towards the process of frying.

Craving for that perfectly seared steak dinner? The best way to cook your steak and the perfect choice of a grill pan will leave your craving satisfied. So we, in this article, will provide a guide on how to use a grill pan for steak?

Before getting into the battle for selecting different types of pans to yield the best results, it is good to understand why the selection for the best grill pan is important. Know that a good grill pan will really lock in any flavors you throw in it. You should try to avoid Teflon and any other synthetic non-stick glazes and coatings. Why is it so? Particularly because the high heat obligatory for cooking the steak may essentially break down the coating leading it to contaminate your meat, as well as ruining your grill pan.

Keeping all that in mind, read on to see some of the best types of grill pans to use for cooking a perfect steak according to your liking and taste, as well as some product recommendations and tips for maintaining your pan base non-stick for long.

Qualities a Grill pan must possess

Choose a pan that not only gives your steak a grilled taste but a grilled look, too.

Pick a pan with raised ridges

Generally, grill pans with dramatically raised ridges are positively superior to those with gentle or shallow ridges. Ultimately, the deeper the ridges, the better your sear marks which are a quibble with the speed-bump style, that the food doesn’t get the desired “grill” marks; the lines are quite wide and blurred. One of the major problems with speed-bump style pans is that the food comes so close in contact to the pan that it steams, which undoubtedly is not a way you want a steak or a chop, and will leave the vegetables soggy, watery, and tasteless, which obviously is unappealing to the eye.

Grill pans with distinct ridges elevate food high above the pan bottom so that there’s a pointedly lesser buildup of steam as the food sears. But because the food comes in contact with only the ridges, it could be a slow cook. So preferably look for a grill pan with ridges that are taller than 1⁄2 a centimeter or so.

Choose a cast-iron pan

A grill pan should most preferably be made of cast iron. While generally, nonstick grill pans
can’t flawlessly mimic true grilled flavor, cast-iron ones are top-notch when it comes to searing, so food tastes very nearly as if it has been cooked over a fire, reason being cast iron’s exceptional ability to retain heat as well as to uniformly distribute heat without getting the food stick to the pan. This is exactly why superior gas grills have cast-iron gratings. Although nonstick pans are way easier to clean, they don’t have the capability to cook your food the same way. But, avoid using a cast iron grill pan if you already have a ceramic range.

The ideal handle

It would be ideal to choose a grill pan with a longer handle. This will make managing the food you are grilling easier and without the fear of burning your hand. Although a longer handle may be weighty, you will still find it more useful to use than a shorter one. You can also choose a handle with a loop or a tab. The only drawback some manufacturers have yet to solve is the problem of the handles getting too hot during cooking.

Square-shaped grill pan

How to use a Grill Pan for Steak

Round grill pans work well, but you have to deal with a reduced surface area as compared to what square grill pans offer. Usually, with a square grill pan, you get enough room to cook the meats and vegetables both at one time.

Grill pan with a matching press

You can also opt for a grill pan with a matching press to get those defined grill marks, press it down the food as it cooks to enhance the grill marks, which makes the steak look even more scrumptious and attractive.

Get a pan with a lid

When you cook on an actual grill, you usually close the grill lid for the heat, smoke, and flavor to retain in the meat as it cooks. So wrapping your grill pan while you’re cooking food on it can help create more or less the same effect.

Different Levels of Cooking Steak

How do like your steak cooked? Different people have different preferences but the level of
‘doneness’ (yes that is a proper phrase used in the kitchen worldwide) determines the flavor, texture, temperature, and color of your steak.

Well done:

For some a well-done steak is a waste of a good-quality piece of beef but cooking a good steak to this level of doneness is a challenge. This one is Grayish-brown with no sign of pink. It’s usually slightly charred on the outside. Some like it for its crisp outer, completely cooked insides and leathery texture.

Medium well:

Mostly gray-brown throughout, but with a hint of pale pink inside barely
noticeable. This steak will be chewy and have very little moisture inside, with no sign of blood in it.

Medium:

This level of doneness often pleases most everyone. A clear band of pink should be visible in the middle of the steak with rich brown sides and darkly charred top and bottom. After cooking and resting, the steak will have a rougher feel and a less-juicy inside.

Medium rare:

A warm pink-to-red juicy center. Firm on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside is the most recommended level of doneness for a good medium-rare steak.

Rare:

This is the steak for the true carnivore who wants something nearly raw but somehow gets it cooked but as little as possible. A rare steak should be warm through the center, lightly charred on the outside, browned around the sides, and bright red in the middle.

STEAK USING A GRILL PAN

Learn how to cook a steak in a grill pan with these simple steps:

Total Time

  • Preparation Time 1 minute
  • Cook Time 8 minutes
  • Total Time 9 minutes

Ingredients

  • Steak-cut meat
  • Butter
  • Seasoning Salt
  • Seasoning Pepper
  • 1 Shallot
  • 1 cup of sliced Mushrooms

Directions

  • Start by removing the steak cut meat from the packaging. Wash and pat it dry with a paper towel. This step is important because if there is moisture on the steak it will create steam, and you don’t want to steam your steak, rather you want to sear it creating a flavorful crust on the outside, right?
  • Then generously coat it with a layer of seasoning salt and seasoning pepper – these are spice mixes that add more flavor than the regular salt and pepper alone.
  • Rub the seasoning into the beef.
  • Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
  • Once the butter starts to brown, put the steak into the grill pan. Let the steak cook for 2 minutes, then rotate it 90 degrees (to create cress cross grill marks) and let cook for another 2 minutes on that side.
  • Then flip the steak again and repeat the process. Cook for 2 minutes, rotate 90 degrees and then cook for another 2 minutes.

  • Remove the steak from the grill pan and let it rest for 5 minutes. Insert a meat thermometer sideways into the center of the steak to make sure it’s cooked to your desired liking. You will want it to read 120 degrees since the internal temperature of the steak will increase slightly as it rests.

Sides (vegetables)

Immediately melt another tablespoon of butter in the same grill pan, add the sliced shallot and mushrooms, season with salt and pepper, and sauté for 5 minutes. Once those are ready, quickly wilt some spinach in olive oil and season it with salt – mostly because something green on the plate will give an instant spark to the whole dish.

Serving

Now that your vegetables are sautéed and your meat has rested so that its juices can be
reabsorbed, it’s time to serve your steak. The steak should be nice and pink and juicy in the
middle.

Wrapping Up!

Grill pans may look the same everywhere but essentially, they are not the same after all, but
since their components and the materials used in their composition dictate the quality of your cooking, you should be vigilant while choosing one. Of course, it would also be great if you choose a grill pan from a well-known and reputable brand to make sure that you get the best grill pan with excellent quality and a long last.

Remember to clean your grill pan with hot water and afterward store the pan in a dry location to prevent rusting. Seasoning your pan with vegetable oil after each use may increase the effectiveness of your cooking and prolong the pan’s life.

Then after peeling it off place the potato firmly into the spiralizer, you can use either the manual spiralizer or an electric one. The perfectly looking sweet potato noodles require getting the best shape, for that you should go for the top electric spiralizer for your kitchen, with which you can easily spiralize the vegetables.

Spiralizer is a fun kitchen gadget with a variety of different blades, sizes, and shapes, to make whichever style noodles you wish to cook.

Sweet potatoes have a tough flesh so you’d have to use some pressure when using the manual one, so remember while selecting the spiralizer, choose the one that makes the spiralizing or noodling process less frustrating and creates the firm, perfectly shaped noodles. Electric ones would be a better choice as they make the overall task quick and efficient.

Once you are done with the initial process, next start the recipe. To cook spiralized sweet potato noodles with garlic sauce, you’d be needing the following ingredients. We can call it a recipe with plenty of nutrients and colors all in one. These spiralizers or spiralizing techniques will awaken the hidden chef inside you, making a move towards a healthier lifestyle.

Spiralized Sweet Potato with Yummilicious Garlic Sauce

The spiralized sweet potato noodles with yummy, mouthwatering garlic sauce add a nutritious, satisfying touch to your diet. The inspiration was taken from Spaghetti Aglio e Olio which is a traditional Italian pasta dish, but instead of using the spaghetti, we are swapping them up with sweet potatoes noodles.

Total Time

This dish takes a total of 1 hour. 50 minutes for making the sweet potato turn into noodles using the spiralizer and preparing the sauce while the remaining 10 minutes are used for cooking.

Serving Size

This vegan gluten-free recipe will give 3 decent sized servings, but a lot depends on the size of those potatoes. It can be used both as a main or side dish.

Ingredients

  • 3 medium-size spiralized sweet potatoes noodles,
  • 4-5 tablespoons of water

Sauce

  • 1 cup raw cashews,
  • 3 cloves of garlic (add more or less depending on your garlicky preference),
  • 2 teaspoon of cornstarch to thicken the paste,
  • 4-5 tablespoon of nutritional yeast,
  • 1 ½ -2 cups unsweetened rice milk or plain almond or ½ cup coconut milk,
  • a pinch of sea salt, and a pinch of black pepper or red chili flakes (whichever you prefer)

Serving (optional)

The options with which you can serve them:

  • Fresh chopped parsley.
  • A dollop of pesto [simply add fresh basil leaves, and pine nuts into the food processor and grind them, then add garlic, Parmesan or Romano cheese, butter, extra virgin olive oil, and salt and pepper to taste till it emulsifies into a smooth sauce] *replace basil with kale for kale pesto.
  • Red pepper flake,
  • Kale chips or sautéed kale [Take a large bundle of purple or green curly kale, drizzle with oil and seasoning of your choice and then bake till they are crispy and very light golden brown. Remove from oven and let it cool] Store-bought crispy chickpeas

Seeds & Nuts

  • 2 tablespoons raw sunflower seeds or hemp seeds or toasted pine nuts

Directions

  • As I mentioned before, the recipe starts with taking 3 medium sweet potatoes, wash them, peel them off, slice them in two and cut the pointy tips off and then give them a noodle form using anyone of the top 10 electric spiralizer.

  • So here comes the most interesting part, put the non-stick pan over the stove on medium flame, add in some olive oil and wait till it gets hot [and in case you don’t have non-stick pan then add plenty of oil so food doesn’t stick to the bottom and keep on adding few drops of water to prevent sticking]. Once the skillet is hot, stir-fry the noodles for 5-7 minutes, don’t overcook else they’ll become stiff and break apart. But if you want to quicken the process, cover the pan and let it steam cook the noodles, the only issue would be that the noodles will get a bit soggy, but if you are okay with that, then it’s no problem.

  • While the noodles are getting ready, prepare the garlicky, creamy sauce. If you want the sauce to be extra creamy, you can soak the cashews overnight or cover them with extra hot water to soak for 30 minutes. Drain them thoroughly. Add the dried cashews in the blender and then the remaining ingredients till it’s blended smoothly and in creamy form and easy to pour. If the paste thickens, you can add more almond milk to smooth it.

  • For any recipe to get a complete look, toppings are very important and because it is a veggie pasta, topping gives it a firm texture.

  • When noodles are done, transfer them to a bowl, add nuts or seasoning, then use the same bowl to heat the sauce on medium-low heat, once it starts to bubble, lower the flame to keep the sauce warm and then pour them over the noodles. Best when serve fresh.

  • Serve it as per your liking, you can garnish it with thinly slice baby kale or chickpeas, roasted broccoli or tomatoes or can even squeeze lemon juice to add more flavor. You can even customize it by adding sautéed kale or mushroom or some shredded Italian cheese or vegan parmesan cheese [which is made by adding raw cashews, nutritional yeast, salt, and garlic into the food processor and blend it until a fine mixture is created].

  • If you plan to eat them later then keep the kale and other toppings separate. Reheat on the stove or microwave.

Now that I have explained the best way to make sweet potato noodles using a spiralizer with a scrumptious garlicky sauce along with a number of toppings and seasonings you can use to make your meal more delish. Enjoy & Happy Eating!

How To Boil Milk With Out Curdling

So! What’s your major issue in relation to milk? Right it is the fear of curdling. While preparing dishes in which milk is the basic ingredient, we have to make check and balance whether it needs curdled milk or not, unlike some hot dishes and soups. There are several dishes which needs without curdled milk otherwise meals will reach to spoilage. Even, curdled milk can be unpleasant to drink, so it is necessary to prevent milk from curdling. In this article you’ll find the answer of your most asked question, that is, how to boil milk without curdling. We are here to tell you those beneficial tricks which prevents your milk from spoiling or curdling. First of all, what is Milk and what does curdling means?

Science of milk

Milk is actually a complex mixture of different ingredients, blended in a reasonably stable suspension. It’s a fusion of water, butterfat, sugars & proteins. When milk is heated, the three components of the blend breaks apart, the milk proteins thickens and separate from water, producing curdled milk. Milk curdles when pH drops to 4.65 or below. The protein is no longer soluble and shows up as “curdling”. Milk usually has a pH around 6.8.

How To Boil Milk With Out Curdling

‘Curdling’ means

To Curdle means turning something from liquid to solid to form clumps or clots. When milk is boiled the white masses clung together and water is separated which is known as ‘curdled milk’.There are some ways to avoid the spoilage of milk depending upon the type of milk.

How To Boil Milk With Out Curdling

How To Boil Milk With Out Curdling

When you are going to boil milk you should follow these precautionary measures to avoid milk from curdling.

1. Check the necessity of boiling

Main reason to boil milk is ‘microbes’. Microbes are the small bacteria or germs present in milk,to kill them we need to boil the milk. Even some milk is safe to drink without boiling, like pasteurized milk. Raw milk should be boiled whenever possible. Pasteurized milk should be boiled if it has been stored at room temperature otherwise if stored in refrigerators then there is no need to boil, they are safe to drink.

2. Spout the milk into a big, clean pot

Choose a larger pot (in length) so there will be plenty of space as milk comes upward when it is boiled or sometimes overflow from a small pot. Clean the pot carefully, otherwise any residue might curdle your milk. It’s better to choose a pot to use only for milk. You need to pay extra attention to prevent burning or overflow.

3. Heat the milk at medium heat

Heat the milk over medium heat and give it your complete attention. If you boil milk at high heat it may destroy your milk so you should prefer to give medium or low heat.

4. Stir Often

If your pot receives uneven heat then the milk may burn in places or it may be spoiled.

5. Boil for a while

Boil your milk for 3-4 mins after foam appears. Then bring it to cool.

6. Store warm milk

Store the milk immediately so that there will be no tension of its spoilage. Milk remains smooth when it is refrigerated.

Reasons of curdling

  •  Acidity and curdling

When milk is used in sauces, soups and other hot dishes it needs to be smooth rather than to curdle. So we have to be assure that food or meals, in which milk is added, must not contain any acidic element. Curdling of milk has very close relationship with acidity. Acids like acetic acid in vinegar or citrus acid in lemon, may bring curdling to the milk. So avoid strong acids in milk dishes. To lessen the effect of the acid, you may use a starch along with acid.

  • Seasoning at the End

Salt is another ingredient that can cause milk to curdle. The point is not to avoid the salt but you may add at the end, rather than cooking it with the salt already in it. Seasoning your sauces and soups at the very end is a good habit to get into anyway.

  •  Tempering of milk

Never, add cold milk directly into a hot liquid, but instead, flick small amounts of the hot liquid into the cold milk. When the milk gets warm, then add it into the hot liquid. This procedure is called tempering. Or you may simply heat the milk gently in a saucepan before adding it.

Types of milk and their nature of boiling

There are many types of milk but we’ll discuss some of the main categories. They are listed below:

Raw milk

It is also called as unpasteurized milk. It contains bacteria and other germs in large quantity so it is necessary to boil raw milk before drinking. As we know boiling process kills germs or microbes present in milk.

Whole milk

Whole milk is actually 3.5% milk fat and is normally less nutritious but more fat-free milk. It is not compulsory to boil this type of milk, one can drink it without boiling. It is likely to be curdled and make cheese from it as it can curdle very easily.

Skim milk

Skim milk is made when all the milk-fat is removed from whole milk, it contains around 0.1% fat. When curdling occurs, one of the reason can be the use of skim milk because it does not have enough fat content. Skim milk will curdle more than heavy cream, and low-fat creams.
How To Boil Milk With Out Curdling

Butter milk

Buttermilk is a slight sour milk, the sourness comes from acids in the milk i.e. lactic acids. It is also lower in fat than regular milk. Buttermilk can be used in sauces without boiling, just cooking at normal heat.

Pasteurized milk

They are very safe to drink without boiling or heating, just keeping them at room temperature or in refrigerators. They should be heated on low flames otherwise will be a chance of curdling or spoiling.

Pros
  • Heat milk at low or medium flame to avoid curdling.
  • Use whole milk, instead of others, or heavy creams in hot dishes.
  • Less acidic elements in dishes will prevent milk from curdling.
  • Before cooking, do not place milk at room temperature for a longer period of time.
Cons
  • Use of skim milk will destroy your dishes.
  • Never keep any type of milk at room temperature.

Why Vinegar Is Used In Pickling

Pickles are something which adds piquant flavor to your meals. Their spicy and tangy taste add more flavors to food and are, broadly, used almost in every kitchen. They can be made at home or you can easily grab them from any supermarket. No doubt, they’re very easy to made and give wonderful taste but the major task is to preserve them for a long period of time, for this purpose Vinegar helps a lot. This article will explore the question why vinegar is used in pickling.

Vinegar is a kind of an aqueous solution of acetic acid and some other trace chemicals. They are largely used in cooking and to preserve various kinds of foods. Vinegar is preservative in nature that’s why they are used to preserve food, mainly, Pickles. And we will also trace the different types of vinegar used for pickling.

Science of Vinegar

Vinegar is, basically, an acidic liquid that is made through fermentation of ethanol alcohol or other diluted alcohol products. It usually contains 5-20% volume of acetic acid. Acetic acid is the main ingredient in vinegar which provide its acidic property.

Properties of Vinegar

There are some physical and chemical properties of vinegar.

Chemical properties

The chemical properties of vinegar includes its chemical formula. Chemical formula alludes to the chemical composition of acetic acid as vinegar is basically a dilute solution of this acid. A molecule of acetic acid contains four hydrogen, two carbon and two oxygen atoms. Vinegar also has a pH level that refers to the number of hydrogen ions in the solution. Its pH and acidic nature also stop the growth of Bacteria in foods.

Physical Properties

Generally Density varies depending on the composition of vinegar, and is analyzed through hydrometer. In addition to density, vinegar also has a specific gravity. Specific gravity refers to the ratio of density to the density of a controlled substance. The physical properties of vinegar, vary depending on the type and amount of minerals, vitamins etc used for its production. These elements generate slight variations in color, level of acidity and nutritional value. These properties made vinegar, a very consistent, ingredient for preserving various kinds of foods and vegetables as well as pickels.

Why vinegar is used in pickling

Firstly, there are two methods, used, for pickling i.e Preservation by submerging into vinegar or Fermentation caused by a chemical reaction between naturally present bacteria and a food’s sugars. We will focus on the first method, that why vinegar is important while pickling and which type of vinegar will be more suitable for this process.

Why Vinegar Is Used In Pickling

Sour and Piquant taste

Vinegar is used in pickling to provide tangy and sour taste to the desired stuff. Some people liked to have pickles to add some sour and stingy taste in their meals. More commonly, and in wide range, used in Eastern countries. For this purpose (pickling) they add some other salty and sour ingredients along with Vinegar because vinegar itself is very stingy in taste and it also preserves foods, vegetables, pickles etc.

Pickling needs Preservation

Pickles are something that needs to be preserve for a long period of time, we can’t make pickles on daily basis. Pickling is a time taking process and in order to preserve them we use vinegar, because it is the best technique for this procedure. As vinegar is acidic in nature so it prevents several microorganisms from growing and its pH maintain the temperature, needed, as well as stingy taste in pickles.

Preserving nature of Vinegar

Now we’ll look upon how vinegar preserves food. So, the main cause of spoilage of foods is the growth of microorganisms, they could be yeast, moulds, bacteria etc. Some of them can be harmful, like pathogens, if they would be present in your food. Others are not harmful but they’ll still break down the food and make it nasty to devour. For preservation we want to inhibit the growth of microorganisms. In two ways we can preserve foods:

  • Cold temperatures prevents the growth of microorganisms that’s why we store food in the refrigerator or freezer to stop them from spoiling.
  • Acidic environments also inhibits the survival of microorganisms.

Acidity is a Key to Preserve foods

By immersing foods in an acidic environment like vinegar we can stop bacteria or yeasts from growing on the food and we can make it safe to eat for much longer periods of time. It isn’t the only acid used in preserving foods as we know lacto fermentation is another example of preserving food. It also shows that even a low pH, acidic environments can prevent many microorganisms from growing or surviving, not all of them.

Types of Vinegar

There are several types of vinegar as they can be made from any food that contains natural sugars. Yeast ferments these sugars into alcohol, and some specific types of bacteria convert that alcohol, a second time, into vinegar. We’ll discuss those which are used commonly used.

White Vinegar

This is the most common type of vinegar in used in every household. It is made either from grain-based ethanol or laboratory-produced acetic acid and then diluted with water. Its flavor is a bit sour for cooking, but it is wonderful for pickling and performing some cleaning chaos.
Why Vinegar Is Used In Pickling

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is the second most common type of vinegar. As its name shows, this light yellowish brown vinegar is made from apple cider. It adds a sour and fine fruity flavor to your cooking. This type of vinegar is best for salads, marinades etc.
Why Vinegar Is Used In Pickling

Wine Vinegar

This type of vinegar is made from mingling of either red wines or white wines and is common in Europe. Red wine vinegar is often flavored with natural raspberry flavoring. Good wine vinegar are made from best wines and are preserved for a couple of years or more in wooden casks.

Rice Vinegar

Very pale yellow, rice vinegar was originated in Japan, where it is essential to sushi preparation. Rice vinegar is made from the sugars found in rice, and serves a delicate flavor. Its red and black varieties are popular in China. Rice vinegar is used in Asian cooking and is greatly sprinkled on salads and stir-fry dishes.

Malt Vinegar

This dark-brown, vinegar, production begins with the sprouting of barley kernels. Many people prefer malt vinegar for pickling. It is also used as the basic type of cooking vinegar in Britain.

Pros
  • Vinegar are useful in preservation of pickles, for this purpose Malt and White vinegar are mainly used.
  • They add more sour and tangy taste to the pickles.
  • Vinegar also contains trace vitamins, mineral salts, amino acids which are essential for human body.
  • Vinegar which have 5% of acidity are very useful and best for pickling.
Cons
  • Raw vinegar cannot be used in pickling and even in cooking, it may cause a bitter taste to food.
  • If the vinegar has been made to dress salads it could only be 4% or less, so should not be used for pickling.
